Program: Observation tower • Client: avb • Size: 63 m2 • Location: Oostvaardersplassen,NL

The observation tower is hidden in the landscape, surrounded by reed beds. When you arrive at the waterfront, the tower is horizontal. The concept of the tower is that it can turn horizontal (to cross twelve meters distance from the mainland) and vertical (to watch birds at eighteen meters height). When the observers enter the building they walk through it into the engine room. Here it is possible to turn the building vertically. To make it easier to tilt the tower there are water tanks placed in between the wooden bars. Make the tower go vertical you need to pump the water from the higher part to the lower part. This way the weight point gets closer to the hinge and the user can easily spin the wheel to tilt it.
